Aine "Celtic air goddess of crops and animals." She is associated
with the sun and midsummer, and is sometimes represented by a
red mare. Among herbalists and folk-healers, Áine was understood
to be responsible for the vital spark of life which they understood
traversed the entire body every twenty-four hours. Also known as the
"Fairy Queen" she gave birth to the incarnated fairies through
her romances with mortal men.
